The demand for medicinal plants by individuals is on the increase both in the developing and developed countries; this is as a result of population rise, inadequate supply of drugs, antimicrobial resistance, inadequate medical practitioners, and high cost of treatment. Herbal medicine is most times an underestimated part of healthcare services, although it has a long history of use in health maintenance, disease prevention and treatment. If correctly used, many herbs are considered safer than conventional medications but there is a problem of mislabeling and identification of plants for curing ailments/diseases; especially when this information is to be sorted locally.
